An abundance has been reported in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the cigarette ban in England. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax cuts to help keep the businesses afloat. However will the internet adaptation of this classic game present a lifeline, or might it in no way compare to its real life opposite?
Bingo is an enduring game normally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game of late had seen a recent resurgence in appeal with younger members of society deciding to hit the bingo parlors rather than the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to be reversed with the enacting of the smoking ban all over UK.
No more will players be able to smoke whilst marking numbers. From the summer of 2007 every public area will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favored places where players enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already banned in the bingo parlors. Numbers have dropped and the industry is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Certainly they have not deserted this ancient game?
The answer is on the web. People realise that they can play bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and cigarette and in the end, have a chance at big cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself just about perfectly with the anti smoking law.
Of course wagering on on the internet is unlikely to replace the collective portion of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
