Much has been written in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry being hit as a result of the anti smoking law in the United Kingdom. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big aid to help keep the industry alive. But does the web adaptation of this classic game offer a reprieve, or will it not compare to its land based opposite?
Bingo has been an classic game historically played by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game of late had seen a recent resurgence in appeal with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo parlours in place of the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the legislating of the cigarette ban across UK.
Players will no longer be permitted to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite places where players like to smoke.
The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already banned in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plunged and the industry is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Obviously they haven’t cast aside this ancient game?
The answer is on the internet. Players are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and cig and in the end, enjoy big jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.
Of course wagering on on the web will never replace the communal aspect of going over to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo players with little alternative.
