Much has been reported in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the smoking ban in England. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive tax cuts to assist in keeping the industry alive. However does the web adaptation of this traditional game present a reprieve, or might it not compare to its real life equivalent?
Bingo has been an age old game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game recently had undergone a recent increase in appeal with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo halls in place of the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to be reversed with the legislating of the anti smoking law across England and Wales.
Players will no longer be allowed to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public areas will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most common locations where players like to smoke.
The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlors. Players have plunged and the business is literally struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Of course they have not cast aside this established game?
The answer is on the net. People realize that they can participate in bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beer and smoke and still have a chance at massive cash rewards. This is a recent development and has timed itself just about perfectly with the anti smoking law.
Of course betting on online will never replace the communal aspect of heading down to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the rules have left many bingo enthusiasts with no option.
