Oklahoma has long been synonymous with Bingo. That’s owing to the fact that the Amerindian tribes of Oklahoma have operated Bingo games for decades. Clients from each of the nearby states get in vehicles and travel to Oklahoma to gamble on Bingo over the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) followed a precedent setting determination by The U.S. Supreme Court just the prior year. From that time, twenty three of the 39 Amerindian tribes of Oklahoma have established gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma American Indian tribes to take advantage of the gambling rules, and today control ten gambling halls of their own. Bingo is the game on which these gambling dens were founded. Electronic games such as one armed bandits weren’t authorized, owing to the fact that they are thought to contribute to gambling dependency at a higher rate than bingo.
In recent years, Oklahoma rules has changed to allow for large American Indian wagering gambling halls. You will now see Native casinos with slots, video poker and black jack tables. Craps and roulette are not yet approved in the American Indian gambling halls as of yet, but that is only a waiting game. No one can say with what having other games in the bingo houses will do for the appeal of bingo.
